The Prosecution worked "diligently"..

A statement was received from the Public Prosecutor, describing their work as "diligent", and the triple murder as an unforseen issue. At the same time, Senior judges do concede, that defense attorneys do purposely delay cases to avoid sentencing of their clients. This is exactely the tactic that Landrinos defense attorney Ian Murray uses, a fact that was already lamented by Senior Prosecutor Tinus Groenewalt.

Mkona murder case postponed
the Argus: 15.11.2006 by Fouzia van der Fort

A sentenced prisoner has appealed to a magistrate not to postpone another case in which he allegedly murdered his pregnant Gugulethu jazz singer girlfriend, Petronella Mkona, their daughter and Mkona's sister.

Angolan David Paulo, 35, appeared on murder charges in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court before presiding officer Hafeesa Mohamed yesterday.

Paulo was sentenced in Wynberg Regional Court to three years' last month, for attempting to murder Mkona's ex-husband Felix Furtak.

Mkona, 31, their three-year-old daughter Latoya, and her sister Charmaine, 31, were shot dead in Mkona's Gugulethu home in June.

State prosecutor Nina Meyer requested a postponement to await a decision from the Director of Public Prosecutors. Legal aid attorney Cheryl Horn had no objections but Paulo pleaded for an earlier date.

Mohamed postponed the case to January 16 for a DPP decision.
